Should I Work at Lowes?
70I worked at Lowes for about three months, and I worked in the lawn and garden department.after about three months I talked to the store manager and let him know that I needed to become a full-time employee, and no longer be a seasonal employee. I needed to enroll in the benefits that was offered at lowes. so I sat down and talk to the store manager, and he said he would move me down to the lumber apartment as a full-time employee.and so I agree, and was a reluctant. Later on about a week later I received a letter from for a 401(k).and I assumed that the deed was done, and I was a full-time empley.
financial problems
Lowes was cutting hours big time. in fact they cut 500 hours in one week.fortunately my hours stayed the same.Lowe's was also fireing many employers. our store was very slow, and we hardly ever made the budget that we were supposed make that day. You could tell it was a bad time for Lowes in Longview Texas. And soon enough our store manager was fired. Along with another manager and a few employees. Lowe's was losing money.
Losing Money
FIRED!!!!
So one day I worked as I was cutting wood back in the board cutting section, I was called back to the human resources Center. I went back to thinking it was just something about training, or just some simple questions. When I went back there was a charm manager and the District manager. It's only the set down, and they told me they had to cut back my hours. And then he informed me that he had let me go.and I was in shock. I told him it was impossible because I was a full-time employee and have never received a writeup. But he insisted on telling me that I was a seasonal employee. And sure enough it stated that I was a seasonal employee in their computer. The old store manager who was fired had never added me as a full-time worker. But instead he had lied to me. But there was nothing I can do because the store manager who were given me his word was gone from the store. So I was forced to leave lowes. And I was definitely taken advantage of.

it is pretty ridiculous to assume lowes won't hire you because you are black. lose the chip.... the one on your shoulder?
my husband was with lowes for 11 years in various positions. in april of 2010, they had us sell our home and move four hours away. in september of 2010, they let him go on a paperwork technicality. we'd alreayd sold our home in the pre-move town. the moral of the story is that they are a fortune 50 company with great benefits, but they are only concerned about their bottom line. their employees and their families mean little to them. i could write a novel on this subject.
I'm a little puzzled as to why the original post writer thinks that it's "impossible" to fire a non-seasonal employee (and by the way, it's employEEs that get hired / fired - not "employER").
It's also weird to read that someone spoke to the store manager and simply told them that they "need" to become full-time, with the expectation that the request be granted based on his/her "need." Last I checked, such decisions are based on qualifications and availability - not simply because an employee "needs" it.
Finally, it's especially perplexing to read that once this manager granted the poster's request to go full-time, the poster felt "reluctant." Why, exactly? You insisted on being full-time, the store granted the request, and then you became reluctant? What the hell?
And then you said the "charm manager" fired you. I guess they bring out the charm manager whenever there's bad news.
Bottom line is that, particularly in such a non-union, hourly position, you were an at-will employee. You can be let go at any time, as long as the reason isn't unlawful (like discrimination, etc.) Being that you were FULLY aware (as we can see here) that the store was cutting back, and being that you were only there for a few months, it's not completely surprising that you could be let go. Being a full-time and/or non-seasonal employee does not in any way prevent you from being subject to lay-off.
probably because you are black! We have maybe 2 black sales floor employees and no managers. all the black kids work the freight in the morning. which is the worst job, backbreaking and unrealistic goals everyday. Mind you i am maybe 5-15 miles from gary indiana.
Lowe's is a joke, tell you all about the good stuff first then shit on you the first chance they get. Don't work here if you want to be happy.
On May 19th 2011 I had a TIA ( a slight heart attack) to cut to the chase the shit ass manger refused to call an ambulance after many tests I have lost 30 percent of my strength on my left side simple because he did not want to call an ambulance the Drs have said if they would have got you to the ER soon you would of been fine I had to call my wife and you talk about a shit company. I have worked for them 12 years
I work at lowes and it's no black managers and it's no black people full time so you tell me what's wrong with that picture
um yes there are black managers and black people working at lowes all over.i should know im black and a manager.
Blacks cannot even push buggies let alone manage. They have no sense or dedication. Drug-related...fantastic candidates
Lowes is a fantastic store with great quality materials as well as customer service. I personally know people who work and have worked at Lowes. I am located near Lowes' headquarters in North Carolina. My one complaint is that Lowes is lacking in diversity. True diversity have women, blacks, and other minorities in management positions based on qaulifications and not quotas. However, Lowes is deep rooted in the "Good Oh Boy" philosophy and if you are not one of the "White Male" "Good Oh Boys" Seek employment at another company for career and only work at Lowes for a short-term job because your hard work, education and quality of work will not even get you close to the glass ceiling.
what you should do is contact corporate. this is very sad when people who work for a large company complain that the company does NOT follow policy on ALL employees. they don't follow the return policy either!! if investors knew how much material lowes takes back they would NEVER place stock in Lowes at all. when I worked there in returns I got in trouble for not allowing a customer to return his item he purchased two years ago and had no receipt. what in the world???!!! on top of that he didn't have warranty for the item. what I know about lowes is that if a manager gets a call from a customer to corporate with a complaint they fire them which is the reason why management didn't want me to deny the customers return. I also have been in a situation where I denied a lady returning her broom THAT WAS NEVER PURCHASED AT LOWES!! the manager on duty took a broom off the shelf knowing that it wasn't the same broom and returned it for her with her driver license just to make the customer happy!! auditors and stock owners alike WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT??? you see...thank God I have another job because I couldn't last there much longer anyways. what they did to another co-worker was sad as well. she worked a 5pm or 6pm shift since she begun working there and had exceedingly passed her 3 month training/trial period. without her consent hr and the store manager (the two who I had problems with as well) changed her shift from 5pm to 6am!! she lives on the bus line with two kids and no transportation you jerks. on top of that how in the world can someone do that to someone else? people we are not speaking of an hour difference, a two hour difference nor even three but...11!!! when I helped her write a letter explaining that she couldn't do the changed hours and it was done wrongly the store manager Michael Owens denied he had any part in it and had the audacity to ask her if she was coming into work later on that week. by the way...that was a lie because both him and the Hr rep planned her schedule change. lol. to be honest I worked within lowes for 5 1/2 years. I've seen managers come and go as well as hr managers. these two who I and other people have had problems with are the ONLY managers I have really disliked and seen them do things unjustly. Hr manager who I am speaking of also told me rather than calling outside garden to verify plant returns to just TAKE BACK whatever the customer says it is on the receipt!! I told her I couldn't do that because the plant the customer may say it is truly may not be it and we could lose money!! because our store hadn't had a sufficient amount of employees working in that department her choice instead of having the customers wait was to have the company lose money and that's ok??? Michael the store manager hid roof rakes when ct had a major storm...isn't it in the policy that we are not to hide merchandise from customers unless the merchandise is actually purchased??? Furthermore why would a store have absolutely no signs up informing customers gas and propane items are prohibited from the store? so it leaves the worker to inform the customer who wants to return a gas powered item that he/she has to wait outside until help comes!! speaking of propane signs are they really big enough for people to see?? then you have customers getting upset because they have to leave their propane tank outside and angry because you told them to.
Lowe's is losing business and going broke by not upgrading their way of doing business. Now they are trying to do it at the expense of the employee incentives. They say the upgrades will take between 1 to 3 years, they could be out of business by then. Good luck to anybody who works there, more cuts to come....
are you blacks really crying? is that all you things do? you do realize there are laws in place to give you things jobs just because you are black LOL. whites make up the majority of shoppers at lowes (just like most places) so stop your spoiled crying. useless things
I currently am employed at lowes as a seasonal over night stocker , and when I first got there I noticed that their were no blacks. I am a white male and I find that to be bullshit. I loce black people that keep it real, white folk try so hard to be perfect for another set of people. Black people are the shit ijs.
This guy obviously has never worked at lowes. I've been in the garden center for 6 years at a store who ALWAYS makes budget and leads district sales, even state sales. And in the six years I've been there, I have NEVER seen an instance where you could just go to the store manager and ask to be full time..... Seriously?!? There's a chain of command you idiot, you would've had to go thru your dept. Manager, then your ASM or Zone manager, after sharing your interest in being full-time you will always be told to apply for any open positions available in the store.... You just can't ask and have that shit granted, selfish dumbass..... It's people like this yahoo that make the image of working retail seem so bad. If you actually had a store that followed lowes corporate policy and a store that wasn't a scum sucking disgrace of the district, then maybe you would have realized that you are a seasonal associate for the company until 90 days after your initial hire date.... You were never full time, you were transferred because to last in OSLG as a permanent associate, you have to be the best in the store in terms of performance and abilities to do pse and installs as well as loading and driving power equip..... What happened to this idiot, was his zone manager and his dept, manager felt that he wasn't suited for the garden center, instead they decided that he could finish his seasonal term of employment in a different dept.... Lumber was a bad choice due to the intensity in that dept. ... So upon seeing that it "wasn't working out" they quietly relayed information to the HR and store managers who made their decisions at the end of the summer season and decided to let him go....NOT fired... His district manager would have NEVER done this... This guys story is so full of bullshit and policies that would have almost every manager in that store and the district manager fired that nothing I read was actually the whole truth... He's just another seasonal washout that couldn't handle actually working hard and being the best in that store... Wha makes it worse is that people hire in thinking that working here is "the only job they could get" and so they like to write about how they hate working there cuz they were stupid enough to agree to a casheir job... You can be a cashier anywhere, so don't bitch.... Also, if you're over 40.... You're just a hinderance and will end up being the one who constantly bitches about hard work and low pay..... Fuck you people, you've had 20 years to do something else, so shut up... Lowes is a great company to work for, pay is wayyyyyy higher than any other retaIler and they have great benefits upon being accepted as a permanent full time or permanent part time associate.
To conclude, this guy is a dumbass liar...
If you were accepted as a permanent associate you would've signed a contract. Which you didn't sooooo you were never anything more than a seasonal worker. Get over yourself and shut up about lowes.
I was recently let go at Lowes. They basically stole me from home depot where I was a permanent part-time cashier. I was hired as a full time seasonal cashier, no biggie I'd apply for a permanent position when it opened. Anyways... I worked for a whole 5 days and 30 minutes before my shift ended I get called into my managers office. He told me that sales are down and the marketing director says they need to lose a few people. And because I was literally the last person hired that they were letting me go first. What crap, they could've left me at home depot instead of going thru that BS.
Excuse me...for those of us over 40 years old we...are what ony a hinderance...what planet are you on...I am over forty and can work circles around you snot nose brat twenty something year old entitled sob's....and most of the Sales Specialist that are OVER forty can work circles and do each and every day.until they make three weeks of vacation, and top out their pay..than a thirty something good for nothing manager comes along and terminates them....So we are a hinderance if we are over forty..well little boy you will be over forty some day...so good luck with that..
